Week One First grade playing away at Bexley Oval bowled very well first up to Restrict GR to a miserly 96. Wickets were shared between Marc Seymour 4/52, Steve Davies 2/18, and Derek Welsh 2/15. In reply with the bat, Briars passed the GR total before the end of the day with the final Score at 7/128, establishing a handy lead with wickets in hand. Among The runs Jason Holley struck a useful 56, with Max Squire chipping in 21 runs. Go the Briars, knock them over again for a 10 Pointer. In Second grade Briars batted first with Cox hitting a fine 70 with Ben Critchley and Vijay Sharma ably supporting him with cameos of 29 and 34 to end up with the final score of 235. In reply GR are 0/33, with One full day available next week. With a reliable bowling attack, taking 10 wickets should be able to gain full 1st innings points. In third grade Briars batted first, with contributions from Lloyd Andrews 46 and the skipper Gareth Robson 33 helping the team reach 164. Although making a par score, bowlers made early inroads in to the GR batting Order leaving them at 3/38, with Jack Kovacic getting 2/5. Plenty of work Needs to be done next week, come on boys show them the real briars strength "get the 6". Fourth grade fielded first and with the strong bowling attack, the very first delivery yielding a wicket, GR were bowled out cheaply for 57 runs. Among the wickets, Ben Van Den Nieuwenhoff taking 4/18, Brad Whitfield supporting him with 3/15. In reply Briars reached the GR total 2 wickets down ending the day on 3/ 124 with Declan Kennedy on 70 and Surya Sriram on 21 not out. Bright chances for an outright victory next week, keep up the good work boys. Finally fifth grade completed a successful chase to pull of the first post christmas win for the Briar’s All Stars. Bowling first, Briars restricted GR to a total of 8/150 off 40 overs. In reply, briars battled well to finish the chase with standout batting performances from Pat Rogers 44 and skipper/all -rounder Michael Taberner 41. Well done fellas, keep it up That's this week's wrap GP
The weekend concluded our games with Georges River with a very pleasing clean sweep.
The 1st grade continued on from last week with a demoralising outright victory. Marc Seymour, allegedly one of the best fieldsman you will ever see was again amongst the wickets and he was well supported by Steve Davis, Brett Bastow and skipper Jason Holley. Set only 85 to get the 10 points the lads completed the job in just 12 overs. 2nd grade also dominated in their game after being dismissed for 235 last week. The bowlers dominated again from the start with Adam O'Keeffe taking 3 wickets and Vijay Sharma, Gerard Price and Stephen Hudson 2 each as the River boys were dismissed for 183.
3rd grade produced another outstanding bowling performance after only scoring 163 last week. The bowling team of Jack Kovacic, Niaz Bhuyian and Ki Currie crushed their opposition to dismiss them for 135 and a comprehensive victory. We batted again and finished at 1-43 when stumps were drawn.
The 4th grade were even more convincing led by the mercurial Warwick Giblin. After dismissing Georges River for only 57 last week we passed their score easily and declared at 3-125. Batting again the opposition only scored 5-91 in 60 painful overs before the rain came to end the day.
Unfortunately our Under 24 boys were not at their best on Sunday and suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Auburn. With 5 rounds remaining all grades are in the top 4 and we are still a chance of regaining the coveted Club Championship. The next few weeks will be very interesting.
