Week 2

Our Club Championship aspirations took a real dent this game due the incredible inaction of Macquarie University. For the 2nd week in a row both grounds at University were not prepared when most other grounds in Sydney actually played. MacQuarie University who play negative cricket at all times called off the games at 11am on Friday!

This prevented any play at all over the 2 weeks against the lowly placed Uni boys and provided a real disappointment for our Club. Our 5th grade were also supposed to play there on Sunday but no play again.

As expected the 1st grade team batted on for a few overs to declare at 9-273 leaving plenty of overs for a result. Unfortunately the Uni versity boys had no intention of forcing a result and batted very negatively to finish at 5-170 in 72 overs. Even the umpires were bemused by their play and the fact that they had the better of the conditions and could not play an enterprising game. Will service and Sanjiv Khalkho both took 2 wickets but quite a few dropped catches didn't help our cause.

The 3rd Grade did get on at St Lukes on a pitch though a little damp was ready for play, something that the University boys were surprised with. After losing the toss and being sent in the boys failed to cope with the turning ball and were dismissed for 78. The skipper considering declaring in future games to make sure the bowlers and fielders put in. With the steady fall of wickets with Jack Kovacic bowling 7 maidens in a row, Peter Catalovski taking 5 wickets and Ian Gibson taking 2 wickets the Briar boys dismissed them in much better conditions for 63. Lloyd Andrews with a couple of run outs and a super catch at slip also set the standard.

With 4 rounds to go all grades are currently sitting in the top 4 and hopes for us to be semi -finalists in mid-March.

On February 18th we will be participating in Pink Stumps Day with hopes of raising some money for the Jane McGrath Foundation. Your support will be most appreciated Gerard Price 0419227949

Week 1

With the club well in contention for the Club Championship we were definitely looking forward to our clash with Mac Uni, Unfortunately only 1 ground, Rothwell of course, was suitable for play and so we have 3 grades playing 120 overs for the day this week.

The 1st grade had a late start due to a wet patch but after Daniel McLaughlin worked his magic with the blower play began with 66 overs to be played. After being sent in (typical negative tactics from the opposition) the lads rallied in front of a near capacity sell-out crowd to post a very good 7-236 on a slow outfield after being 3-25 early on. Adrian Neligan blasted a super 70 and he was ably supported by young AJ who is currently 44* and Brett Bastow who delighted the crowd (except Beamesy who had him in the sweep to top score) with a punishing 61. I am sure a win will be the result for the good guys as the opposition will probably be happy with a draw.

The 2's, 3's and 4's were all washed out and the Under 24's were called off on Saturday for their Sunday game due to the disgraceful Pennant Hills Oval. The mighty 5's had a super win after being dismissed for only 131 with the better Rogers brother (Pat) scoring a very good 51. The bowlers, led by Dylan Edwards in his first game back this year and Jack Styles then destroyed Auburn to dismiss them for only 81.

Great day lads
