Greenlees Park Bowling Club is located in Concord with three
magnificently maintained greens and a functioning club house.
The Men’s competitions are held weekly on Wednesday,
Saturday and Sunday, with additional special event competitions, for example, Good Friday Bowls. The Men start their Pennants competition in March for a duration of three months.
The Women hold their weekly bowls day on Thursdays and also
join in on social bowls on Wednesdays.

Mens Bowls in 2010
Greenlees Park Men’s Bowling club has 96 full members 65 of whom are active bowlers.
Greenlees Men’s Bowling Club Play state pennants in Zone 11, in 2010 we have 4 grades being no.1 (Top Grade) No.2, No.4 & No.5 Pennant grades.
Pennants are played over a 10 week period from March to May, with the Zone winners then going on to represent the zone in the state play offs. There are 16 zones which cover the whole state and these 16 zones come together in each grade from No,1 to No.7 at 1 (or 2 in the same region) venue per grade to play off for the state flag this occurs the first week end August.
Other the pennants we have our in house championships where we play on a Sunday Morning which goes basically the whole year we start off with the club fours, followed by the Major Pairs, Major Singles, Minor Singles, Minor Pairs, Club Triples Major/Minor pairs & mixed pairs. These club championships are played on a knock out basis and each take 4 – 5 weeks to complete. The winners of the Major Singles and Major Pairs are entitled to go on and represent the club in the state champion of champion singles and pairs, which are firstly played on a zone basis to pick the zone winners who then go onto the last 16 in the state.
Many of our players play in the State events which cover singles, pairs, triples and fours with the zone winners going on to play in the state championships which are held in October and the state winners in all but the triples going on to play in the Australian Championships, which we were fortunate enough to win the Australian Fours in 1994.
We hold several sponsored tournaments throughout the year being Patrons Day held on Australia Day, Trevor Lee & Son versatile fours held on Good Friday, The Greenlees Winter turn around triples held the Saturday of the June long weekend, The Greenlees Open Pairs held on the 2nd Saturday in September, Black Friday pairs every Friday 13th The Keith Free 2 bowl triples held on the 2nd Thursday in September.
There are also 3 tournaments held in conjunction with Burwood Diggers which are run with our assistance by the Diggers, these being Golden Slipper and Melbourne cup pairs where we pair off the skippers and leads which are then drawn out of a hat.
We hold a cal cutter on the Sunday morning before bowls with the money raised going into the pool, we also run a cal cutter on the actual Melbourne Cup which is done after bowls. These are most enjoyable days. The 3rd tournament run by the diggers is Anzac Day pairs where we hold a remembrance service followed by bowls.
We have social mufti bowls every Wednesday at 1.00 P.M. and Sunday Morning starting 9.30 A.M. for those not involved in club championships, we constantly get over 30 players on these 2 days occasionally sneaking passed the 40 mark. Also on Saturday’s outside pennant days we also have mufti social, these days also draw good attendances.
We have Burwood Diggers playing out of our club they have 34 members about 28 of which are active, they hold their own championships independent of us and also have 2 pennant grades being No.4 & No.6 grades, so when you combine the 2 you will see that we have strong numbers of active bowlers using our greens.
We also have City Tatts playing out of our club on Tuesdays even though they quite often travel to other venues many of their Tuesdays are held on our greens.
All in all we are quite strong and very pro active but could always use a lot more3w players particularly our sorting members from other sports who can no longer play the physical contact sport they are in at the moment.
Our major aim is to fill every pennant grade from 1’s to 7’s.
Greenlees Park Bowling Club History
Greenlees Park Men's Bowling Club was founded in 1950 and the Women's Bowling Club started in 1956.
In the 1970's and 1980's there were many interstate games played at the club with many of these being State Finals. Our Patron, Keith Free, marked one State Singles Final. The Right Hon William McMahon Fours began in 1969 and continued each year to 1979, with up to 132 teams playing (528 bowlers).
Between 1999 and 2003, the Keith Free Invitation Pair have been held here, with prize money of $10,000 attracting top bowlers from NSW and interstate.
Annual Events
Yearly events have been held over the years at Greenlees Park against The Gasworks, Sydney Markets, Newcastle Jockey Club and the National Coursing Bowling Club, as well as annual events with City Tattersails Bowling Club.
Golf & Bowls Days Golf and Bowls days with Massey Park Golf Club, have also been running annually for the last 19 years, with even success for both clubs. Annual Golf and Bowls days have also been held annually with NSW Attorney General's Department 2, sponsored by Wayne Allan.
Bowls Coach Our current Bowls Coach, Neville Day, who has played for the State as well as for Australia on numerous occasions, was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
OAMs The Club has been further honoured by two of our bowling members receiving OAM's. Rod Riley received an OAM in 1992 for sport in general, by isolating the Greenlees Park Couch (which is the grass used in most of the bowling greens around Sydney and the coast) and for Bowling in particular. Keith Free received an OAM in 2002 for contribution to the Racing Industry and the Community.
Men's Results Greenlees Park have played in the No. 1 Pennants competition for the past 40 years, as well as playing in the new Premier League in 2002. Grade 1 won the Zone and played in the State Finals from 1996 to 2001 and again in 2005. Other grades have won in 1996 (No. 4), 1999 (no. 2), 2001 (no. 4) and 2002 (no. 7).
Women's Results The Greenlees Women's Bowling Club have performed well over the years, being Section Winners in the Pennants in 1964 (no. 3), 1971 (no.4), 1995 (no. 4) and 1997 (no. 3). They were also the District Winners in 1992 (no. 3) and in 2002 (no. 4), going through to the State Play Offs in Kurri Kurri.
Australian Fours Champions John Fitzgerald, Phil McAulay, Alan Burton and Phil Pratt won the State Fours Championship in 1998, and then went on to win the Australian Fours Champion of State Champions at Dudley Park Bowling Club, in Mundurah, WA.
Bowler of the Year Award Phil Pratt was named the 1998 Bowler of the Year.
