Round 1 Print E-mail

The season started off in a positive way for the Club this year. The Netball Season launch took place in the morning before all games commenced. Thankyou to Brett Howle for making all of the Netball girls feel welcomed to the club.

The A grade team had a very competitive game against the Balmain Wolverines Dazzlers, starting off goal for goal. With our new uniforms looking very impressive, the girls got into the swing of things pretty quickly. The Dazzlers proved to be a very fast team, which in turn saw Briars tire by the fourth quarter. Although both our shooters and defenders were almost immaculate, Balmain intercepted some of our centre passes which in turn saw them win the game. We wish the girls best of luck in this season and hope to see them move on to win the season like they did last season.

The B grade team were rushed onto the court after the launch in the morning - however this did not deter their fighting spirit. They proved that they still have the netball skills needed to take out the game! Not having ever played as a team before, the Briars Chardies have already proved to be working well as a team on the court. They managed to steal quite a few of the Balmain Wolverines Rogues centre passes to continually stay ahead on the score board. With the Rogues only having 6 players in the first half, Briars 2 managed to gain quite a lead to then take out the win for their first game. Whilst our first two teams were able to brush off the cobwebs this week,

Team 3 unfortunately had a bye this week and have to wait until next week for their first game of the season.

Overall it was a great effort from all the girls that turned up to our season launch on Saturday and a big thanks to Greg and Linda McPhee for assisting in the running of the morning. We hope to have a successful and fun season this year, it would be great to see some familiar faces down at Cintra Netball Courts to cheer all 3 teams on this year.
